The Daily Nosh – Proverbs 5:8-9
Keep your way far from her, and do not go near the door of her house, lest you give your honor to others and your years to the merciless. (ESV) Proverbs 5:8-9
Nosh: Some sinful conduct (in this case adultery) brings ruinous dishonor and a loss of reputation. Honor and a good reputation, once lost, are hard to recover. Oftentimes, it is only after a good reputation is lost is its great value realized. Furthermore, Solomon also warns that the immediate and ongoing consequences we suffer for sexual misconduct may be severe and long lasting from those we dishonor. Better to wisely heed the warning than foolishly ignore it and suffer the destructive consequences.
