(4) Then it came to pass, the word of Adonai (the Lord) came to Isaiah saying: (5) “Go, and say to Hezekiah, thus says Adonai, the God of your Father David: ‘I have heard your prayer and I have seen your tears. Behold, I will add 15 years to your life. (6) I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria; I will defend this city.’” (TLV)
God’s answer to Hezekiah’s desperate prayer for healing and extended life is a good description of how God defines generosity and how it should work in our lives. God not only gave Hezekiah what he requested (which was healing and extended life) but added to it that He would defeat the threat currently posed by the army of Assyria. Generosity, as God defines and models it, is giving beyond what is requested or expected.
