The Daily Nosh – Exodus 4:24-26
It happened along the way, at a lodging place, that Adonai (the Lord) met him and sought to kill him! But Zipporah took a flint, cut off the foreskin of her son, and threw it at his feet, saying, “You are surely a bridegroom of blood to me.” She said, “A bridegroom of blood” because of the circumcision. Then He let him alone. (TLV) Exodus 4:24-26
Nosh: As Moses was returning to Egypt to lead the Jewish people out of slavery and into the Promised Land, God directed him to circumcise his son. Apparently, his wife strenuously resisted that divine instruction. Fortunately, despite her objections, Moses eventually complied. However, it is important to note that his initial disobedience to God’s directive almost disqualified his leadership role in the deliverance of Israel from Egyptian bondage not to mention God ending his life. What I learn from this episode is that when God gives a clear instruction, it is better to fear God and risk offending man than to fear man and risk offending Almighty God.
