The Daily Nosh – Ecclesiastes 7:16
Be not overly righteous, and do not make yourself too wise. Why should you destroy yourself? (ESV) Ecclesiastes 7:16
Nosh: We all have known people who are hyper-spiritual about everything. You can’t have a normal conversation with them because all discussion, no matter what the subject, is cloaked in spiritual jargon. Solomon asserts that this is abnormal conduct and infers that it hides the sin of pride, which is masked by obsessively projected spirituality. We know from many Scriptures that pride is the sin of rebellion and will at some point lead to a fall that could damage or destroy a person’s life. So file this one away as a warning to self and for when in life such a person is encountered.
