The Daily Nosh – Deuteronomy 24:5

Daily Nosh

When a man is newly married, he shall not go out with the army or be liable for any other public duty. He shall be free at home for one year to be happy with his wife whom he has taken. Deuteronomy 24:5

Nosh: Sometimes, we are faced with competing priorities. Immediate context is often what determines which takes precedence. However, what appears to be the most pressing may not be the most important. In this instance, the people of Israel are instructed that even in times of war, nurturing and establishing a new family’s well-being is a higher priority than the threat to national security and an entire year is designated for this objective. In our hurried, busy lives, it is good to be mindful that as important and pressing as our agendas seem, the spiritual, physical and emotional welfare of our wives and families should (after our relationship with God) be kept at the top of our list. Learning to rightly order our priorities will undoubtedly bring great blessing and much prevent heartache and trouble in life.
