The Daily Nosh – Deuteronomy 13:13-17
(Concerning idolatry – the worship of foreign and false gods)
Suppose you hear it said in one of your cities, which Adonai your God is giving you to dwell in, that worthless fellows have gone out from among you and enticed the inhabitants of their city, saying, ‘Let’s go and serve other gods’ – that you have not known. Then you are to investigate, search out and inquire thoroughly. If indeed it is true and the matter certain that this abomination has been done in your midst, you will surely strike down the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword, utterly destroying it and all that is in it and its livestock with the sword. You are to gather all its plunder into the middle of the street, and you are to burn with fire the city and all its plunder – all of it to Adonai your God. It will be a ruin forever – it shall never be built again. (TLV) Deuteronomy 13:13-17
