Helping Families Begin Again: A Story from Kibbutz Nahal Oz
On October 7, 2023, life changed forever for the residents of Kibbutz Nahal Oz, one of the Israeli communities attacked by Hamas. Homes were invaded, families sheltered in their safe rooms, and neighbors lost their lives.
For Karen and her family, those terrifying hours became a struggle for survival.
As they hid inside their home’s safe room, an armed terrorist entered the house. Miraculously, he failed to notice the door behind which the family was hiding. Karen and her loved ones remained undiscovered, and after hours of fear and uncertainty, they were finally rescued.
They had survived. But returning to the life they once knew was no longer possible.
Their home, once a place of comfort, safety, and cherished memories, could no longer provide the refuge it had before. Like many families affected by the attacks, Karen and her family faced the difficult task of rebuilding their lives while living away from home.
Through the generosity of supporters and the humanitarian efforts of Joseph Project International, Karen’s family received furniture for their temporary residence. These practical necessities offered more than everyday comfort. They helped the family take meaningful steps toward restoring a sense of stability and normalcy after an unimaginable experience.
While furniture cannot erase the trauma of that day or replace everything that was lost, it can help turn a temporary living space into a place where a family can begin to feel at home again.
Karen’s story is a reminder that humanitarian aid is about more than meeting physical needs. It is about standing alongside people in their most difficult moments, offering compassion, dignity, and hope for the future.
To everyone who supports Joseph Project International and makes this assistance possible: thank you. Your generosity is helping families like Karen’s take the first steps toward a new beginning.
